Love is beautiful. Love is inspiring. But love is also lethal.
Carrie could feel the warmth of two bodies on either side of her as she began to stir from her sleep. While that comforting feeling should have brought a smile to her face, all she could think of was the pounding in her head. The familiar throbbing that she had experienced once before, during a week that she couldn't quite remember details of. Though as she faded into consciousness, the details that had been fuzzy before seemed clearer than ever. Memories of who she was, who her friends were, came flooding into her mind as the morning light hit her newly opened eyes. This roused a low groan from her. She could feel anger growing within her, a feeling of possessiveness that she couldn't quite shake - yet neither of them were her feelings. The longer she remained still, the more that feeling grew, and it didn't take long for her to realize the culprit: Carol Ferrs. It was happening again.

She looked to her left and found that Kyle - Kal, she forced herself to think - was sleeping peacefully. To her right was Fatality - no Yvie. The three of them had taken a ski trip for Yvie's birthday and stayed the night at the lodge. Carrie knew how her close friend felt about birthdays, so she and Kal had decided to do something to take her mind off of that. The weekend, that was coincidentally Valentine's Day, had been a major success. The three of them had been all smiles, having a great time out on the slopes and in the bedroom. For some reason, the three of them together worked. Carrie couldn't explain it. It had been a few weeks since they had decided to see where things went, and things had only gotten better. No, they haven't, came the angry voice of the star sapphire leader within her. Carrie's hands went to her temples as she tried to fight the woman who was trying to take control of her body. They were both strong personalities, which made it difficult. "Stop it," she muttered under her breath, trying not to wake her sleeping companions. Carol didn't like what was going on here. She was tethered to Kyle, and two sapphires sharing someone was unheard of. She especially didn't like Carrie's feelings for Yvie. It made things more complicated, so Carol was just as determined to shut that away as Carrie was to get Carol out of her head.

She quietly got out of the bed, being careful as she moved over Kyle's frame. The last thing she wanted t was to wake either of them before she had a chance to get herself under control. He stirred, just slightly, but didn't wake. Thank God. Carrie took slow, cautious (and somewhat groggy steps) into the nearby bathroom to get a look at herself in the mirror. Her eyes bore into the ones looking back at her. It was almost as if Carol was her reflection, taunting her. She splashed water in her face and narrowed her eyes into a glare, daring Carol to take this weekend away from her. "Don't ruin this," she whispered, a hint of pleading in her voice, and Carol forced her to laugh. Carrie Foster was definitely going crazy, and all she could do was hope the two people in the other room she cared about didn't overhear her mental conflict and that they weren't experiencing it too.

A few minutes passed before she started to hear voices in the other room. It was easy enough to pick up on the confusion in tones and realize that at least one of them had shifted with her. She groaned at this realization as she shut the flow of water off. Her eyes moved downward to her right hand, and she watched in awe as the violet ring appeared on her finger. Right where she had left it before things had normalized and Carol had disappeared. But Carrie didn't want the ring or anything it stood for in that moment. She pulled it of her finger hastily before tossing it onto the counter next to the sink. The word "No," came out of her mouth before she took in a deep breath to prepare herself for the awkward conversation that was bound to come next.

After a moment, she gripped the door knob and pulled the door open just in time to hear Kyle ask where Carol was. "Right here," she said, a slight hint of frustration in her voice, as she crossed back over to the bed in which neither of them had yet to leave. She took a cautious seat on the foot of it, facing them, and looked both of Carrie's lovers over. It was her feelings for both of them keeping Carol's anger at bay, at least for the moment. Carrie buried her head in her hands, head throbbing from the pain of trying to keep Carol from speaking her mind. The moment Carol had the floor was the moment this relationship ended.

"Did either of you pack any aspirin?"
